Our Ethos

Molescroft Farm runs over 1,600 acres of arable land, it is run by Tamara, sister of Camilla who is the director of the nursery. For many years we have run educational visits on the farm for all ages of children as the farm has 10% of the land managed primarily for wildlife and the environment, we feel it makes it an especially good place for children to learn and explore. We are therefore very passionate about sharing our amazing environment with the next generation and as a result, we opened our purpose-built nursery provision in September 2017. We were fortunate to welcome many amazing families who believed in our vision from the very first brick been laid and have since been fortunate to welcome many more,

Consequently, In June 2021, we took on the adventure of extending our provision and opened our specific pre-school building which is now separate to the nursery. Meaning our 3-5year olds enjoy a building specifically designed with their age group in mind!

As we are very passionate about outdoor play and exploring the wonderful natural learning environment, we are lucky enough to have on our doorstep. It was vital both buildings allowed children to be at one with nature and the outdoors. Each age group has a direct door which leads out on to a large, secure outdoor play area so children choose where they want to play and learn all year round.

There is a large canopy that ensures that children can play outside in all weathers, and we also provide wet weather clothing so the children can play happily in the rain or snow as they wish, as we don’t believe it bad weather only unsuitable clothing!

Beyond the children’s garden we have open access to our wonderful working farm. The children go regularly for adventures on the farm learning all about the world in which they live through their own eyes, with their own little hands which works in perfect harmony in creating curious minds! We witness the tiniest of insects on logs in Hobby Wood to spotting deer, the buds of new life in spring and fallen autumn treasure.

We also have our raised beds where children can plant and tend to a variety of fruit and vegetables. This also teaches children about the need for patience and perseverance, and with this comes a great reward, all essential life skills.

We have also recently added a large polytunnel on site allowing us to operate this as an ‘outdoor style classroom’ allowing a love for growing all year round which is turn provides us with homegrown seasonal vegetables to be added to our amazing menus. Our amazing apple orchard also provides us with plenty of apples, whilst not all make them back to the setting as they’re too good to wait, we stew what does to be served and enjoyed!

Come Visit Us

We strongly believe in play based learning. We provide an environment, everyday, where children can develop through play.

We know each child as the individual that they are and through this we set up activities to progress their development. We do not pressurise the children, rather we provide a fun stimulating environment where a love for learning is developed.

Outdoor learning

There are animals on the farm, including the nursery chickens and the children are involved in their care and help with their daily routine. This care for nature and animals is absolutely core to our ethos of a loving, nurturing environment where the children in our care can flourish. Please see our on the farm page to learn more about our furry friends which are a part of our family.

Our wider outdoor opportunities are open to all our children both big and small. We have quad cross-country buggies meaning even the smallest of our children can enjoy the space and fresh air we have to offer.

What We Do

Environment

We are always trying to find ways to be as environmentally friendly as possible with reduce, re-use and recycling being at the heart of our nursery ethos, whether it be through using as little plastic as possible or using recycled natural product all through the nursery. You can see more about how we implement this on our Community page.

Food

Our nursery cook prepares amazing nutritious meals for the children every day on site. None of the food that we serve is processed, and sugar and salt are not added. We don’t serve puddings, rather a seasonal variety of fruit salads, smoothies and lassis. Snacks are savoury to avoid sugar sitting on the children’s teeth. Food is sourced locally where possible and from our own raised beds. See Sample Menu.

Play

We strongly believe in play based learning. We provide an environment, everyday where children can develop through play. We know each child as the individual that they are and through this we set up activities to progress their development. We do not pressurise the children, rather we provide a fun stimulating environment where a love for learning is developed.

Learning

We have many extra lessons, which the children love taking part in, from French, science, gardening club and music. We have educational visits up to Frith Farm, which is a veg box scheme which runs only a couple of field away on the farm.

Outdoor learning is fun!
